Pregnancy Ultrasound

Ultrasound scans are a pain free test performed during pregnancy to check on your baby’s development and look for any abnormalities. It uses harmless sound waves to create a moving image of your baby. A number of different scans are performed during pregnancy, all of which can be done at our private clinic in Altrincham.

Pregnancy Ultrasound

  • Fetal Viability Scan -

    Timescale: 6 - 10 weeks
Confirms the viability of your pregnancy and determines the number of foetuses present and whether the pregnancy is progressing normally inside the uterus.

  • Nuchal and Nasal bone Scan -

    Timescale: 11 – 13weeks and 6 days
Looks for any major physical defects, measures the back of the neck (nuchal translucency) in order to calculate the risk of Down Syndrome. The scan is combined with simple blood test which measures hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin), and PAPP-A (pregnancy associated plasma protein). The combined test picks up about 90% - 93%of babies with Down's syndrome.

  • Fetal Anomaly Scan -

    Timescale: 18 - 24 weeks
This is a detailed scan during which each part of the fetal body is examined to check that all is well with your baby and pick up any problems. From 18 weeks onwards, it is possible to examine your baby in more detail. Most organ systems such as the brain, heart, lungs and kidneys can be examined to ensure that your baby appears to be developing normally. Sexing of your baby can be done as well.

  • Baby Growth Scan -

    Timescale: 24 - 32 weeks
This scan provides a detailed assessment of the baby's development and includes a full foetal growth profile, recording measurements like length and weight. Your baby’s presentation (whether baby is head down) is also checked, which is used to predict any possible problems during delivery.

  • 3D & 4D Baby Ultrasound Scan -

    Timescale: 24 - 32 weeks
Provides breathtaking moving images which allow you to see the delightful reality of your unborn baby. 3D and 4D scans give both parents an opportunity to bond with their baby as you see it moving in the womb. The scan will be done in addition to the Growth Scan and at the end we will provide a DVD copy of the scan to take home with you.
