NHS / AQP

Diagnostic Healthcare Limited has been successful in becoming an “Any Qualified Provider” (AQP) in a number of locations for the provision of Ultrasound and MRI scans on behalf of the NHS. This is a new provision to give GPs and patients more choice for their referral in relation to appointment times or locations making it more convenient while reducing waiting times.  This is all led by the local Clinical Commissioning Groups* (CCG’s) run by local GPs in each of the geographical locations. *This is an example of Manchester’s CCG

AQP Example:

When a GP refers a patient for an Ultrasound or MRI scan the appointment can be booked instantly via “Direct Bookable, Choose and Book” (or appropriate referral system**) at a location and time to suit. We have a variety of times and locations to choose from, it’s as simple as that! Results are sent directly back to the GP. Don’t forget a patient’s workplace could be next to one of our locations, which could be more convenient.

Listed are the AQP locations that Diagnostic Healthcare operates from:

  • Greater Manchester – MRI , Ultrasound and DEXA***
  • Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield – MRI and Ultrasound
  • Cumbria – MRI and Ultrasound
  • South West Essex –Ultrasound only
  • South Staffordshire –Ultrasound only
  • Wirral – MRI and Ultrasound
  • Blackburn and Darwen – Ultrasound
  • Nottingham and Nottingham County – MRI and Ultrasound
  • East Cheshire – Ultrasound only
  • Walsall – Ultrasound only
  • Wolverhampton – Ultrasound only
  • Leeds – MRI and Ultrasound
  • Bradford – MRI and Ultrasound
  • London – MRI and Ultrasound

Diagnostic Healthcare is on “choose and book” as a primary referral source** however we appreciate that not every GP practice uses this so we also have an NHS email, Fax or our dedicated booking line. In certain instances where local clinical commissioning groups (CCG’s) have their own systems we adapt and use what is in place. If you require a referral letter or require any more information please contact us.

Department of Health and NHS definitions;

Any Qualified Provider:

“The choice of Any Qualified Provider (AQP) is being introduced to give patients more choice and control. It will build on and extend the existing choice of provider for elective care introduced in 2007. The approach to AQP will put safety and quality first, sustaining current standards and supporting continuous quality improvement. There will be transparent and rigorous processes for qualifying providers to be an AQP”. Source: www.dh.gov.uk

“The Any Qualified Provider (AQP) scheme means that, for some conditions, patients will be able to choose from a range of approved providers, such as hospitals or high street service providers”.

“Patients and GPs can choose a service based on what’s important to them – perhaps one that is closer to home, has a shorter waiting list or better outcomes”. Source: www.nhs.uk
