How do I make an appointment?

Anyone who would like to have a bone density scan and has not done so during the last year can have it performed privately. Alternatively, if you have any of the indications mentioned in “Am I at risk?” , your GP might refer you for a scan on the NHS, if appropriate.

To refer yourself privately or on the NHS you can make an appointment, by calling Diagnostic Healthcare on 0161 929 5679. You can choose from a wide range of convenient appointment times, including weekends and evenings.

Please note that if your GP or consultant has referred you, we will require the completion of a referral form:

You will normally be offered an appointment within 5 days of the receipt of a referral.
The results and a report including a treatment recommendation, is sent to the original referrer within a maximum of 5 days of the test being completed.

Alternatively if you have made a self-referral we will send the results to your home address. You will then need to make an appointment with your GP for the results to be explained to you.
